I bet there must be millions of these things out there - diaries of deluded egotistical idiots like me that start off in a rush of enthusiasm, get read by nobody, and stop getting added to after three days.

Well I'm back, and as a professional writer I really have no excuse for not keeping up to date. So let's just say that Wednesday 27 April is a very special day to put in your diaries, north Londoners, because John Hegley and his fabulous band The Popticians will be playing Crouch End Music night along with special guest the multi-talented Ronnie Golden. Okay, no more bold lettering.

John is probably best known as the nation's favourite poet - he's been entertaining audiences of all ages with his brilliant poems for nigh on quarter of a century, and he's still as funny as I remember him being the day I first saw him performing at the Comedy Store in 1981. The Popticians are a brilliant band who give his great comic songs an extra dimension - this is a gig I wouldn't miss for the world, and you'd be mad to. Find out more at johnhegley.co.uk

What can I say about Ronnie? Not as much as he manages in his own ronniegolden.co.uk site. The guy is a walking history of comedy and rock and roll. The former Fabulous Poodle is now best known for fronting his own dance band Ronnie and the Rex, and for his brilliant Edinburgh shows with comedy god Barry Cryer. Tonight Ronnie will be giving a rare outing to his more serious songs, which should be a fine old treat.

I promise from now on to rant a bit more, and if I discover that anyone actually ever reads this self-indulgent if occasionally entertaining piffle I promise to tell you all about the rather unusual gig that took place on the last Wednesday in March. You'll have to leave a note that makes me assume there's anyone apart from me out there reading this. Am I making sense? Who knows...

A new title...

... to publicise the show that's taking place on Wednesday 22 December. (See below, or, assuming I still haven't got the hang of this superhighway bollocks, see above).

Only to let you know that it's been highly recommended by Time Out magazine. If you're still logging on, Wisconsin Truck Driver, (see somewhere else), Time Out is a London listings magazine, and not just a reference to a break taken during one of those sports you nicked from us and laughingly describe as 'World Series'.

Oh dear, I hope I haven't alienated the one (fictional) person to have logged on to this blog. I really don't understand it, I've already posted three messages and still no one has left any comments. Just because I haven't mentioned the existence of this site to anyone yet (apart from George, who's too busy geeking away on his own site when he's not playing British Bulldogs in Space or whatever it is young people do on their x-boxes), I would have assumed, this being the internet, I would have been hit a zillion times, as it were. Perhaps I shall try and find a visual representation of Britney Spears daring to be photographed with clothes on. That should interest some people. Or not.

Better go, nurse has told me to lie down and take my pills. That's two entries with the same title. How can I prove to you that I'm not like the other bloggers. I know - I'll change font size!! See? I can be different!!! owefp gt9w gt0-

Didn't work, did it? Alright, here goes - on Wednesday 22 December we've got a fantastic bill at Downstairs at the King's Head. The wonderful Emaline Delapaix is a marvellous singer from Oz who's been touring the UK all winter. Great live act, lovely melodies, you can listen for free if you want at www.emalinedelapaix.com Then there's another fab female singer Dana Shellmire (www.danashellmire.com) who quite frankly you'd be mad to miss. Plus two blokes with no websites to speak off, but blow me down if they aren't the most fabulous musicians you'll see this side of Christmas. I'm referring to JOHNNY RAMSAY, who is the finest ukelele player you'll ever meet (I guarantee) and MICHAEL DUNIGAN a mean guitarist, though not in the parsimonious sense. And with former Guns'n;Moses axe wielder DAVE COHEN hosting as ever, it's going to be a cracking night out - all for a fiver.

That's downstairs at The King's Head, Crouch End Hill, Crouch End, London N8. tel 0208 348 1028. Finsbury Park tube and W7 bus, or Archway tube and number 41.

Wednesday 22 December

So why on earth would you be interested in reading a blog by some bloke who runs a music and comedy venue once a month in North London? So log off now, you kinky pervert, go and pretend you're a gorgeous blonde teenager with a seven figure record deal.

The rest of you will have to wait for my next posting while I go off and work out what in God's name I'm letting myself in for by setting up this blog site.
